Several columnists are disgusted by the discovery that the first deals to rebuild Iraq will go only to US companies (because only they have the necessary security clearance.) The Guardian notes that the US vice-president, Dick Cheney, is still bankrolled by Halliburton, the Texan company awarded the contract to put out any oil-field fires in Iraq, to the tune of GBP600,000 a year. Mr Cheney left the firm in 2000.
