President Mbeki criticises high telecom rates

by oneafrikan on March 1, 2005

We recently worked out that it costs us approximately 100x more for bandwidth in South Africa, than for our office in the UK (if we were to have an equivalent speed connection).
Here’s the maths:
£15.31 per month / 256k connection in the UK vs R18 000 / 256K connection in Cape Town.

As you can well imagine, this is a massive limiting factor for business in South Africa.

That’s why this article on citi.org.za and originally on ITWeb is a good read.
