What a wonderful day

by oneafrikan on March 19, 2005

Today was by far the best day this year.
Not too hot, not too cold, not too windy, no big grey clouds, no cold rain, no bad bus drivers ;-)

The end of this week (Thursday and Friday) really tee’d up today, and sitting at the tail end of the day with tomorow to look forward, I think it’s going to be a great weekend, definitely one to mark the start of summer.

I don’t know what it is about the weather and how it affects people in London. One day you’re wearing a scarf and trying to keep the cold from inside your suit jacket, and the next you’ve got sweaty bollocks and you’re looking up the very, very small skirt (was more like a belt really) of a slightly overweight woman walking ahead of you up the stairs in the train station. I mean, lets face it – no woman in her right mind would wear something like that in winter, but bring out a little sun, and they all seem to get their kit off.

For example, we (that’s Sarah and I) were walking from Isleworth to Richmond when we walked past this girl, who couldn’t have been more than about 16, wearing this little pink half bikini / half gym thing combo, with massive circular earrings that almost reached her shoulders, walking her two dogs. I think one was a mastiff and the other a terrier. I remember it not because of the skimpy pink outfit (no daughter of mine will ever leave the house looking like that, I promise), nor the earrings, nor the dogs, but because of her snow white belly that had this little gold belly button ring competing for attention with her snow white skin. Summer has indeed arrived.

So what was good about today?

I was made breakfast by my girl – poached eggs with soda bread and potato cakes.
I then slept some more, ’till about 11.
We then just chilled on the couch for a few hours, watching cooking on TV and reading.
I had a bowl of fruit with about 4 fruits in it, which was delicious.
We signed up for the Amazon.co.uk 4 dvd at a time rental offer – chose 3 movies to kick our list off.
Had a walk to Richmond in the sun, along the Thames river – was awesome.
Enjoyed a hot chocolate and massive chocolate chip cookie at Starbucks.
Got to my place, and spent the rest of the day chilling out on the couch.

I don’t often switch off, but today was different – yes, there were a few things floating around in my head, but for the most part, I managed to just be in the moment, enjoying the time with my girl, spending time bonding and enjoying each others company. The flip side is that I slept more than she did today, so while she is sleeping now, I’m digging deeper into wonderful WordPress, and writing this. But that’s ok.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow ;-)
