Blog pinging services

by oneafrikan on March 22, 2005

I wrote an earlier post about blogging, and included this list of services that you can ping to notify when you update your blog.

Here is a list of services to ping (copy and paste them into your blogger of choice) when you update your blog:

Tip: Be specific about which services you ping. Pinging 30 services after each post will make your posting slow, and you may be pinging an “apples” pinging service, when you really need to ping a “oranges” service. IMHO Ping-o-Matic is one of the better ones as it does a group ping for you ;-)

Thanks for the information. I’ve been using ping-o-matic, but they haven’t always been up lately and I’m looking for a service that does the same thing. I also don’t understand how pinging 30 services will make the posting slow.

No worries ;-)

I’ve also found ping-o-matic to be down sometimes, but reckon it’s the best out there for now. They’re doing out of goodness, so I reckon it’s something I’m happy to flow with the go with…

I’m not really sure how either – but if the code is looping through all the services you have set up, then it has to send to each one, and then come back with an OK, so I guess that’s where it is.
Mine was an observation of result, so I could be wrong…

You can also try Pingoat. I use both Ping-O-Matic and Pingoat and they work well for me. I don’t have time to use all of these so the group pinging works great for me. :)
