_ stevenberlinjohnson.com: Why The Web Is Like A Rain Forest

The difference between this Web 2.0 model and the previous one is directly equivalent to the difference between a rain forest and a desert. One of the primary reasons we value tropical rain forests is because they waste so little of the energy supplied by the sun while running massive nutrient cycles.

A nice piece from Steve – being a zoologist by training, I like ecological models / analogies, ‘cos that’s how I’ve been trained to think and reason, so this was refreshing, if not a little lacking on the ecological theory, but it gets the point accross which is the important part ;-)
