SWeb 2.0 drinks…

by oneafrikan on April 26, 2006

A few of us have been chatting about the long train trips / cab fares home from events that always seem to be in Central or East London, so we’ve decided that we’re going to try do something a little closer to home, for all the obvious reasons…

So, if you’re into the mixed bag that is becoming Web 2.0 in the UK, then you’re welcome to join us whether you’re from the South West or not… just remember that there are still Wombles in Wimbledon Common so bring your brollies

Would be really cool if we could get some bloggers, writers, designers, coders, accessible type people, business people, wordpress people, Ubuntu people, GTD people, backend system beasties and maybe even one or two lovely ladies along…. you never can tell ;-)

The details:
Friday the 19th May, 7pm onwards
Location is: My house for a BBQ (address forthcoming).
View the Upcoming.org post as well (http://upcoming.org/event/73637/).

My place is one minute from the station, and about 40 seconds from a butcher and a Threshers.
I’m thinking that I’ll go get good steaks from the butcher near us if you ask me to, and prepare them properly myself. All you’ll have to do it bring drinks and a snack or two.

If you’re thinking of coming, please post a comment here so that we have a rough idea of numbers – it may help us to get a special deal or something.

Thanks in advance ;-)

Damn. 11th May I have booked a day’s leave and am going to see Clapton in Birmingham. I am dead keen to come along to meet up and learn. Any chance of a new date?

Sounds good. Count me in.

I’m sure we could do a new date if more people want to change it – Friday the 12th could be an alternative date. Stay tuned…
Clapton is going to be awesome!

Cool – see you then! ;-)

Thanks for the reply. Ja, I’ll stay tuned but meantime will place the event into my site’s calander. If it changes I will amend mine.

Clapton will be good. We go see him each year normally at the Albert Hall but I was too slow for tickets there this year. Also want to see Billy Joel.

Gareth, just a note to remind you that ‘hot’ woman and tech are a contradiction in terms. You might want to substitute ‘hot’ for something…

I’ve also had some more offline conversation this morning, as well as a few thoughts last night, and I’m thinking a barbie / barbeque / braai is in order. Why go to a pub / bar when you can enjoy a spring evening eating great food and drinking cheaper beer?

So, I’m happy to have everyone who wants to come around to my place for a BBQ, where I’ll make sure there’s good meat and plenty of drinks nice and cold – how does that sound?

The only thing I’m not sure about is putting up my address online – what do you guys think?

The Michael Arrington approach! Sounds like a good move to me…

Yea, that’s kinda what I was thinking Chris…
Besides, any excuse for my special garlic/olive oil/herbs basted grilled-to-perfection-so-you-can-slice-’em-with-a-butter-knife steaks is a good one ;-); And we’ve already used up one day of summer, so I figure we better make good use of the next 14 or so ;-)

Sounds interesting. Keep me posted.
