Browsershots makes screenshots of your Web design in different browsers. It is a free open-source online service created by Johann C. Rocholl. When you submit your Web address, it will be added to the job queue. A number of distributed computers will open your Web site in their browser. Then they will make screenshots and upload them to the central server here.

My previous design lasted for almost half of that time. Despite its shortcomings (lack of a feature-rich CMS) and obvious design flaws, and given the amount of recognition that it received, I became hesitant to change it much. Until the waves of spam attacks began.

Since my blog was running on a bespoke system, it became increasingly difficult and time-consuming to manage, which partly explains why I haven’t been posting as regularly.

So after a tricky data migration and clean-up (the volume of crap I’ve written in the past 6 years is embarrassing), a tiresome metadata capturing process (adding titles and tags to 770 posts), and a couple of design revisions later, this blog has undergone a complete overhaul and is now powered by WordPress 2.5.1 with a super collection of plugins.

When the beta version of Vanilla was released over a year ago, the web community latched onto it with completely unanticipated vigour. Vanilla definitely broke some ground, but needed polishing very badly.

Thanks to the vigilant and practically relentless efforts of both the fans of Vanilla and the developers in the community, we’ve been able to make Vanilla what it has become today.

By far the biggest improvement in Vanilla is the Framework underneath it. Now called the “Lussumo Framework”, these core libraries have been written and rewritten with two things in mind: extensibility and speed.

We’ve managed to make the framework completely extensible, allowing developers to make Vanilla do just about anything.
When it comes to speed, not only have there been significant improvements in page delivery times, but extensions are now way faster to develop thanks to the cleaned up page controls and the brand new introduction of delegation.

Finally, I must thank the amazing group of people at The Lussumo Community. Your positive attitudes, friendly natures, support, and tireless efforts make this whole thing worthwhile.

It’s loads different to GMail, but not better or worse IMHO. It does seem a mite slower than what you would hope for, but come on, it’s a web app! It does look a little better than GMail, and you can now also add another email address for your account that goes into the same Inbox… so it’s worth sticking around for.

I’m not gonna post screengrabs or write a review as many people probably already have (I’ve been living in this little world called client work for the last while since SxSW) so no point in clogging up more bandwidth, except to say that I was pleasantly surprised, it’s very usable and and I also like it
