_ City guides, lifestyle directory and complimentary concierge services from Stylebible.
StyleBible is the insider guide to exclusive fashion, beauty, travel and lifestyle establishments across the style capitals of the world. London & New York are our two current cities, however we’ll be adding more cities until there’s no stylish place on the planet we haven’t given the once-over.
Boutique hotels, funky night spots, hip multi label boutiques & relaxing retreats are just the tip of the iceberg. With StyleBible there’s no need to lug around a cumbersome guidebook, simply create your own personalised notebook online, print it out and slip it into your handbag or download it to a PDA.
Style with a digital twist, served on the rocks…
I liked this:
Why can’t I just use Google?
Google only provides links to other web sites that won’t provide you with independent personalised reviews from a single source encompassing our target sector. Equally important, you could spend hours looking for information that is available on Stylebible in seconds. You save a lot money with the negotiated special offers for Stylebible subscribers, offers you wouldn’t find on Google.

_ Amazon.co.uk: Seven Samurai [1954]: DVD
Unanimously hailed as one of the greatest masterpieces in the history of the motion picture, Seven Samurai has inspired countless films modelled after its basic premise. But Akira Kurosawa’s classic 1954 action drama has never been surpassed in terms of sheer power of emotion, kinetic energy, and dynamic character development. The story is set in the 1600s, when the residents of a small Japanese village are seeking protection against repeated attacks by a band of marauding thieves. Offering mere handfuls of rice as payment, they hire seven unemployed “ronin” (masterless samurai), including a boastful swordsman (Toshiro Mifune) who is actually a farmer’s son desperately seeking glory and acceptance. The samurai get acquainted with but remain distant from the villagers, knowing that their assignment may prove to be fatal. The climactic battle with the raiding thieves remains one of the most breathtaking sequences ever filmed. It’s poetry in hyperactive motion and one of Kurosawa’s crowning cinematic achievements. This is not a film that can be well served by any synopsis; it must be seen to be appreciated and belongs on the short list of any definitive home-video library.
After much malignment from my housemates I managed to sneak some time latish one night to watch Seven Samurai, and boy was it worth it!!
As a kid I was brought up with the classic western The Magnificent Seven, so when I came accross something that said that The Magnificent Seven was loosely based / inspired by Seven Samurai (but of course for a western audience), I really wanted to see it. After signing up for Amazon DVD Rental a quick search meant I could finally watch it (Blockbuster’s Wimbledon hasn’t had it in the 4 years I’ve been in London).
Anyways, I’m no film critic (the reviews on Amazon are a good start), so all I can say is that if you want to watch a classic movie that has inspired filmographers since, or even if you’re a fan of Japanese / Tartan cinema, then you should definitely give it a try. From me, defo 5/5 ![]()

_ Ubuntu Linux / Windows Dual Boot Instructional Video - Google Video
The WVU chapter of the ACM presents an instructional video on installing a dual-boot system using Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux. The video details the entire process, from partitioning the harddrive to walking through the install procedure. This video was made for the WVU ACMs Linuxfest / Installfest that occurred October 26th, 2005.
Co-host: Chris Del Checcolo
Co-host: Ricky Hussmann
Cameraman: Dougald Brown
Pretty cool video of the install process for both WinXP Pro and Ubuntu Linux. As it says on the tin, it runs you through everything you need to know to get a dual boot system working. Recommended as a reference if you haven’t done it before.
Was funny to hear the guys pronounce Ubuntu as “oo-bun-to” ![]()
_ Cheat Sheet Roundup - Over 30 Cheatsheets for developers
Lets face it, unless you have a photographic memory, no developer can remember all the different functions, options, tags, etc. that exist. Documentation can be cumbersome at times, thats why I like cheat sheets. They are quick references that feature the most commonly forgotten things on a specific topic. You can print them out and hang them on your wall, or just keep them handy in your bookmarks for quick reference.

Phew, I’m off on annual leave on the 14th of April, and it’s kinda snuck up on me. So much to organise and get together so that Sarah and I can have a cool time. But, when you get your accomodation sorted out (for a few days
at a place like AbacoVilla, then it all seems worthwhile!
Note to all those people not from South Africa:
Bet you wish you were able to get some of that!
Kunal has released a cool little app that watches an Outlook folder, and basically puts what’s in that folder, into your blog. You can download ver 0.8 of OutlookMT from here.
I had some problems installing, which were easily fixed by pinging Kunal and getitng a quick solution.
Here’s what you need to do:
1. Use your Outlook CD (or your MS Office Install CD), Add/Remove components, Make sure “.NET Programability” is installed for Outlook.
2. Drop the files from the zip file into the Office11 folder.
3. Set up the config file to match your blog.
4. Run the exe - should work fine!
Notes: The BlogId doesn’t work with Wordpress - just posts to the default blog cat.
And that’s it - go forth and post to your blog
Newsgator have updated their site - looks like they’re getting into the swing of things
I use Newsgator every day, and I can honestly say that without it, I would be in the equivalent of the technological dark ages. I was using RSS Bandit, but found it too memory hungry, and the interface a little klunky - I work in Outlook, so the decision seemed a natural one. With Newsgator offering a “Newsgator Online” offering as well, where I can sync my rss feeds with my home PC, as well as read the ones I like anywhere in the world, it just made sense.
Go get it, join the revolution…
Rant: I’ve added a best of the best section to this blog - I want to share the apps, things, people that I feel are worth being in the best of the best category.
